The Division of Informational-Bibliographic Processes Computerization

The Division of Informational-Bibliographic Processes Computerization of S. Beisembayev Scientific Library (hereafter referred to as “DIBPC of the scientific library of PSU”) was established in 2015 by means of merging of the scientific-bibliographic division and the sector of computerization of informational-bibliographic processes. The Division carries out activities on implementation and exploitation of computer equipment in the library’s subdivisions, maintenance of the automated library system, training of the personnel and the electronic catalogue’s performance assurance. Besides that, DIBPC of the scientific library of PSU renders informational and directory-bibliographic services to the library’s users oriented to objectives and tasks of scientific, academic and educational work of the University on the basis of electronic and traditional informational-bibliographic and reference resources.

The Division’s tasks:                                                            

• Complex automation of the main library processes, creation of informational infrastructure for maintenance and use of the electronic library; 

• Prompt provision of informational and bibliographic services to all categories of readers on the basis of modern multimedia technologies; 

• Development of electronic resources fund (acquisition and digitalization);

• Publication of informational-bibliographic items; 

• High-quality maintenance of reference and search tools and DB (BDB “Articles”, Full-text DB “Works of PSU Scientists”); 

• Coordination of the Division’s work with faculties and departments. 

the Division’s services:                                                         

• Maintenance of virtual informational-bibliographic directory service;

• Electronic document delivery (EDD); 

• Systematic provision of information on document holdings;

• (Information Day, virtual review of new literature, the New Books bulletin);

• Formation of bibliographic lists;

• Copying of information to electronic media.

• BDB “Books”, i.e. library documents (books, brochures, electronic and multimedia documents);

• Electronic Library System of Lan Publishing House (St. Petersburg) is a resource that includes electronic versions of books published by Lan and leading publishers of educational literature, electronic versions of periodicals on natural sciences, engineering and the humanities.

• The collection of licensed dictionaries, programs for translation, training programs for the study of Kazakh and European languages.

 

e) Traditional catalogues (Catalogue Room): 

Alphabetical catalog 

The catalog contains descriptions of books by individual authors and titles of collections arranged in alphabetical order. 

Systematic catalog 

This catalog presents the library holdings by content. Indexing is based on tables “Library Bibliographic Classification” and “Universal Decimal Classification”.

The systematic catalog includes the following rows:

- books (written in the Kazakh and Russian languages)

- unadapted (original) literature in foreign languages 

- electronic resources (multimedia library) 

Alphabetical subject index of terms and concepts for the systematic catalog (ASJ)

ASJ is the key to the systematic catalog. It includes an alphabetical list of terms and concepts with reference to specific sections of the systematic catalog.
